Safe Security Device

The Safe Security device monitors key aspects of your Safe. These include temperature, humidity, motion, and door state. Monitored events can be configured for text and email alerts. All events saved and searchable.

Safe Security requires USB Power and a Wifi connection. The device has an internal Wifi antenna, however, due to the signal blocking nature of metal, an external antenna is included and recommended.

One price includes hardware, App, service, shipping, and 250 SMS Alerts. Additional SMS alerts can be purchased at $0.99 per hundred. 1 year warranty.

The Safe Monitor requires USB Power and a WiFi signal to operate.

USB Power can be achieved with an outlet kit such as the Liberty power outlet kit. Stack-On and Cannon have similar kits. An individual may create their own solution (see example below) as long as a USB power source is available internally. Begin installation with USB Power off.

WiFi does not penetrate metal, so signal attenuation may be problem. For this reason, an external antenna with magnetic base is included and recommended. The antenna base cable connector is designed to pass through very small holes. It will fit the Liberty kit wifi hole and all other manufacturer pre-drilled safe holes. Attach the antenna base to the outside of your safe and thread the cable into the interior. Snap the connector to the module, an audible click will result.

In this example, power is provided by a generic power strip which includes USB sockets. The power strip was disassembled, the power cord inserted through hole, then reassembled. Also shown is the Wifi cable and external Antenna.

Next, let's install the door contacts. The magnetic contacts "close" when within 1 inch of each other. The contacts "open" when the door opens and the contacts are moved away from each other. Door contacts are the best way to guarantee a door event is captured properly. Alternatives such as light sensors will not detect a door opening in complete darkness. The downside of door contacts is the positioning. Unlike conventional door or windows, safe interior doors are inset and do not provide a natural mating surface.

With a little work, we can adapt door contacts for use in a safe. Each contact has an adhesive sticker for mounting.

  • Step 1:
    Plug barrel connector of the wired contact into module and turn on the USB Power. The LED will transition from blinking green to breathing cyan.
  • Step 2:
    Mount the wired contact at the bottom corner of the door on the hinge side. See image below:

  • Step 3:
    Measure the height from the safe floor to bottom of door contact. This height will be compensated with a wood base for the other contact. Peal off the contact sticker and attach to base at matching height. Optionally secure contact with mounting screws.

  • Step 4:
    Now, move the block contact into position. Test by closing safe door and read door state on your App (press Home button). Repeat moving the block until App reflects a closed state when door is closed and open when door is open.

The installation is now complete. Here is a smallish Cannon Landmark Safe with Safe Security installed. The components have been spaced out for viewing.
